You need to back off a great deal. Start at a slow stroll with no incline for 10 minutes and do that for several days and see how you feel. Gradually increase your speed and time and incline. You will not lose weight very easily if you injure your leg again and cannot exercise at all. You have to become more active very gradually. I know it is frustrating, but it really is what will work. You have to give the muscle a rest. If it is severe, you might need to stay off your feet as much as possible. Keep your leg elevated as much as possible to reduce swelling. Apply an ice pack for 15 minutes a few times a day to help reduce the swelling and pain. Wrap an ice pack (a package of frozen peas works well) in a towel and put it on the part of your leg where the pain is. Don't put ice directly on your skin. Icing is especially important in the first couple of days. After a couple of days you could try alternating ice and heat, or heat alone, to promote healing. Wrap your thigh in a wide Ace compression bandage. This helps reduce swelling and provides support. It needs to be tight enough to help reduce swelling, but not too tight so it doesn't cut off circulation. If you feel numbness or tingling loosen the bandage. Talk to your parents or your pharmacist or your doctor about an appropriate over-the-counter pain medication if you need one. You may benefit from physical therapy, but you won't necessarily need it. Most hamstring injuries will heal within a few weeks. If it does not get better, or if it happens again, then you should get it checked. You might need to learn strengthening and stretching exercises to improve the range of motion and prevent future problems.
